The Global Health Committee (GHC) is seeking a new SMO Committee Member and Trainee Representative to join their Committee.

The GHC supports and coordinates the NZSA’s overseas aid and outreach projects. Providing recommendations and facilitating projects in lower-middle-income countries with a focus on the South Pacific. This includes locum anaesthesia cover during the Pacific Society of Anaesthetists’ annual meeting, the Pacific Anaesthesia Collaborative Training Programme (PACT), the Hugh Spencer Education Fund and Lifebox Project.

Vacant positions

This will suit:

An SMO/Fellow with experience in global health, who is passionate about safe and equitable access to high-quality anaesthesia care.

GHC members must be a member of the NZSA.

You will gain:

  • A community of supportive colleagues working towards the same goals.
  • The opportunity to get involved in a number of projects and support others to help make a difference.

Your commitment:

Committee members must attend at least two meetings a year. The Committee meets quarterly, with one face-to-face meeting a year.

Committee meetings can be claimed under Cat 2 of the ANZCA CPD program

The trainee representative role on the NZSA GHC is an excellent opportunity for trainees interested in global health to become involved in projects early in their career.

You will be:

  • Involved in raising awareness of global health issues amongst our trainee community, particularly those affecting our Pacific neighbours.
  • Supporting the work and projects of the GHC including the PACT programme.
  • Providing support to Pacific trainees based in the Pacific.

This will suit:

  • A trainee with an interest in global health and safe and equitable access to high-quality anaesthesia care.
  • GHC members must be a member of the NZSA. Trainee membership is free.

You will gain:

  • The opportunity to get involved in global health with the support of experienced colleagues.
  • The opportunity to get involved in a number of projects and support others to help make a difference.

Your commitment:

The trainee representative role is a two-year term.

Committee members must attend at least two meetings a year. The Committee meets quarterly, with one face-to-face meeting a year.

The GHC has two trainee positions, you’ll be working alongside another trainee member in their final year on the committee and supporting a new member in your final year with the GHC.
