The Assisted dying care pathway: Overview e-learning module explains the process for accessing assisted dying, including the roles of different health practitioners. This module will support health practitioners to understand the process should a person in their care choose to access assisted dying. It also helps practitioners understand which parts of the process they may choose to be involved in.

The Responding when a person raises assisted dying e-learning module is to support practitioners to prepare for when assisted dying is raised with them, including how to respond respectfully and appropriately. This module is accompanied by a conversation guide, and a handbook that explores best practice communication skills in further detail.

These modules are suitable for all health professionals and have relevance to practitioners who are choosing not to be involved in assisted dying, including for reasons of conscientious objection.

Further e-learning for medical and nurse practitioners who are planning to provide assisted dying services will be available soon.

Additional guidance and training resources are available in the Ministry’s LearnOnline platform. This includes recordings of the assisted dying implementation webinar series, and information sheets for health professionals and health service providers.
