Specialist shortages in New Zealand

The Association of Salaried Medical Specialists (ASMS) says that the results of its latest survey to estimate specialist staffing needs across all DHB departments show a nationwide shortfall of around 24%.

Clinical leaders were asked how many SMO full-time equivalents are needed to provide a safe and quality service for patients.  ASMS conducts this survey every year. You can see how your DHB measures up by reading reports of the situation at each DHB here
