Hawke’s Bay Fallen Soldiers Memorial Hospital is searching for consultant anaesthetists to join our cohesive, friendly and supportive team. These are great opportunities to enjoy work and an enviable lifestyle in the wonderful Hawke’s Bay.

The successful candidates would join a team of around 30 anaesthetic SMOs and 11 anaesthesia trainees to enhance the Anaesthetic Department according to their training and experience, and would also participate in the out-of-hours service. We have a collegial work environment with a range of surgical and medical specialties serving a diverse patient population. We are committed to ongoing education and improvement of our service and actively support junior staff and interdisciplinary team education. The Department is approved by ANZCA for two years of vocational training in anaesthesia.

It is a large, secondary level, 400-bed accredited public facility providing acute and elective care for a region of over 176,000 people. The work of the Department is varied and often challenging.

Hawke’s Bay has experienced significant population growth and demographic changes over the last ten years. A wide range of surgical, medical, oncology and radiological services are offered and we have outgrown many of our facilities and now require considerable expansion. The next few years should be quite exciting! Both Royston and Kaweka private hospitals are close proximity to Hawke’s Bay Fallen Soldier’s Memorial Hospital.

The successful applicants will possess either FANZCA or an equivalent qualification that would lead to specialist registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand and have an ongoing commitment to providing a top-quality service to our community.

We have no doubt that you would love everything Hawke’s Bay has to offer: the stunning climate and beaches; the wide range of sporting and leisure opportunities; the art, wine, food and culture; and an environment and work/life balance that are second to none.
