Who we are

The NZSA is a professional body for Anaesthetists run by a national Executive Committee. 'We are anaesthetists speaking for the anaesthesia profession in New Zealand.'

What we do

We advocate to government on issues such as the listing of drugs, workforce, assistants to the anaesthetist, the electronic health record and private practice issues.  We meet with the Minister of Health and opposition health spokespeople and respond to policy discussion documents, influencing issues affecting anaesthesia, the wider health sector and patient care.

We work closely with a range of stakeholders including the the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA), the Ministry of Health, the Medical Council of New Zealand, ACC, the New Zealand Medical Association, Pharmac,  and the New Zealand Private Surgical Hospitals Association.

The NZSA has representation on the ANZCA Council, and its New Zealand National Committee, and we attend council meetings of the Australian Society of Anaesthetists.  We also liaise with other medical and allied health organisations, both nationally and internationally.
